7 Fakta yang anda perlu tahu untuk memilih IPTS

1. IPTS yang berdaftar dengan Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi.

2. Kursus pengajian yang ditawarkan itu masih sah laku.

3. Kursus pengajian diakreditasi oleh MQA (kalau dulu LAN).

4. Struktur yuran diluluskan oleh Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi.

5. Kemudahan dan infrastuktur yang lengkap dan bersesuaian.

6. Kursus pengajian diiktiraf oleh JPA (Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam).

7. Disenaraikan dalam SETARA '09 Rating (untuk IPTS bertaraf kolej universiti atau universiti) atau MyQuest (untuk kolej swasta).

Semua saranan di atas adalah tips yang dikeluarkan oleh Jabatan Pengajian Tinggi, kementerian Pengajian Tinggi Malaysia. Jabatan Pengajian Tinggi juga menyarankan supaya pelajar meneliti perkara-perkara berikut untuk memilih IPTS yang paling sesuai:

1. Semak dan fahami terma dan syarat yang ditetapkan oleh IPTS berkenaan.
2. Melawat IPTS tersebut terlebih dahulu untuk melihat keadaan yang sebenarnya.
3. Hindari dari terpengaruh dengan macam-macam tawaran dan iklan-iklan yang disiarkan di akhbar (seperti pinjaman wang, wang saku, komputer riba percuma dan sebagainya).

MyQuest: a ranking for Malaysian private colleges

MyQUEST (Malaysian Quality Evaluation System for Private Colleges) is a system developed by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) Malaysia, as an instrument to evaluate the current performance of private colleges in Malaysia in terms of students, programmes, graduates, resources and governance. The evaluations is necessary in order to push the education level in Malaysia to a higher standard. MyQUEST rating is an institutional rating of the private colleges, either overall or cluster. Five main criteria used in the assessment are students, resources, quality management system, programmes recognition and graduates recognition. MyQuest has one clear aim which is to provide guidance for students and parents in choosing the right programmes and colleges.

The exercise for data in 2010 was conducted between April 2011 and August 2011. All 400 active colleges in Malaysia were invited to participate with the exercise. By the deadline, 310 colleges have entered the online system. From 310 colleges, 232 colleges are qualified to be audited. After the auditing process finished in August 2011, the findings from the audit showed that only 210 colleges are qualified to be rated.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the purpose of MyQuest is to categorise the colleges which are excellent, good, or weak, and prepare suitable approaches to help the weaker ones with their issues and challenges.

Over 60% of private colleges have been ranked as satisfactory with a score of four stars and above according to the first MyQuest. Of all the colleges, only three institutions, Penang Medical College, Segi College Subang Jaya and Taylor's College Subang Jaya were awarded the maximum of six stars (distinction) and received scores of above 90%. Apart from the top three colleges, 20 colleges (9.5%) attained five stars (excellent), and 60 colleges (28.6%) attained four stars (very good), with the remaining 72 (34.3%) receiving three stars and below. They are 55 three-star (good), 35 two-star (satisfactory) and 37one-star (poor).

ke mana selepas SPM? universiti awam (IPTA), universiti swasta, kolej universiti dan kolej swasta (IPTS) yang menawarkan program dan kursus peringkat sijil, diploma, ijazah dan sarjana sarjana pilihan pelajar di Malaysia

Kemana selepas SPM? Berikut adalah beberapa pilihan kepada lepasan SPM. Namun semuanya tetap bergantung kepada prestasi anda dalam SPM.

Universiti
Universiti ialah destinasi puncak bagi semua pelajar. Namun tidak semua pelajar layak masuk ke universiti. Pelajar yang berjaya masuk ke universiti selepas SPM ialah pelajar yang cemerlang. Lepasan SPM memohon kemasukan ke universiti melalui UPU.

Kolej Matrikulasi
Matrikulasi menawarkan aliran sains (sains hayat & sains fizik), perakaunan dan kejuruteraan. Seperti juga Asasi, selepas Matrik, pelajar boleh mohon kemasukan ke IPTA melalui UPU. Program matrikulasi adalah selama setahun atau dua tahun bergantung kepada keputusan SPM pelajar. Matrikulasi adalah under kerajaan. Namun memang susah nak masuk ke matrikulasi melainkan keputusan SPM sangatlah baik. Kelebihan matrikulasi ialah pengajian boleh ditamatkan dalam masa yang singkat. Sekiranya pelajar gagal mendapat pointer yang baik, pelajar akan ditendang keluar dari matrikulasi. Apabila telah ditendang keluar dari matrikulasi, pelajar akan hanya mempunyai SPM untuk meneruskan kerjayanya. Kalau pun lulus matrikulasi namun gagal masuk ke IPTA, matrikulasi tersebut tidak laku untuk memohon pekerjaan.

Politeknik
Politeknik menawarkan program teknikal dan latihan untuk peringkat sijil atau diploma. Difahamkan ada 3 politeknik yang bakal dinaik taraf menjadi universiti. Politeknik Ungku Omar (PUO) dan Politeknik Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (POLISAS) antara politeknik yang bagus dari segi akademiknya. Banyak juga program yang ditawarkan di ILP dan ILJTM, MLPK dan sebagainya. Harus diingat bahawa taraf sijil adalah sama dengan SPM cuma gaji permulaan lebih sikit. Diploma sama dengan STPM, tapi gaji permulaan lebih sikit.

Kolej swasta (IPTS)
Ada beratus kolej swasta di Malaysia sekarang. Hampir setiap hari ada iklan kolej swasta di akhbar-akhbar. Kolej menawarkan program sijil dan diploma. Ada kolej yang menawarkan program diploma bersekutu dengan IPTA lain di Malaysia. Misalnya Kolej Teknologi Timur dan UNikop menawarkan program diploma UiTM. Banyak kolej yang menawarkan program berkembar dengan universiti luar negara. Misalnya, Kolej Islam Antarabangsa menawarkan program berkembar dengan Teesside Universiti, UK. Dari beberapa segi, diploma lebih praktikal dari matrikulasi atau tingkatan enam. Walaupun masa belajar adalah lebih panjang (hampir 3 tahun, berbanding hanya dua tahun di matrikulasi atau Tingkatan 6) namun pemegang diploma mempunyai lebih peluang pekerjaan. Dari segi yang lain, pemegang diploma menimba lebih banyak ilmu dari pelajar matrikulasi atau Tingkatan 6. Tambahan pula, berbeza dengan pengajian di matrikulasi atau Tingkatan 6, bidang yang diambil di peringkat diploma adalah lebih menepati keperluan industri dalam dunia perkerjaan.

STPM
Lepasan SPM masuk Tingkatan 6 untuk menduduki peperiksaan STPM. Namun Tingkatan 6 kurang popular terutamanya di Kuala Lumpur. Ini kerana pelajar akan merasakan yang mereka masih lagi 'pelajar sekolah'. Mereka masih memakai seragam sekolah, perlu ke sekolah setiap hari, dan masih berada di 'sekolah' dan bukan institusi pengajian tinggi. Tambahan pula, peperiksaan STPM dianggap sebagai peperiksaan yang paling sukar di seluruh Asia. Biasanya pelajar memilih tingkatan 6 setelah gagal memasuki mana-mana IPTA. Jika mendapat keputusan yang baik dalam STPM, pelajar akan terus ke ijazah pertama di IPTA. Namun STPM lebih bernilai dari matrikulasi. Ini kerana tidak seperti pemegang matrikulasi, pemegang STPM boleh memohon pekerjaan.
